Hands-off gold-running in Ngauro

Kelangboor warns the corrupt Jieng trio gold-merchants Gen. Salva Mathok, Gregory Vasili and Gov. Louis Lobong, hands-off Ngauro Gold running

For Immediate Release                                                         November 30th 2020

Didinga, Laarim, Tenet and Murle Communities in Diaspora (Kelangboor) warn the well known corrupt Jieng trio gold-merchants Gen. Salva Mathok, Gregory Vasili and Gov. Louis Lobong Lojore of consequences for their illicit and dubious gold mining contracts with foreign firms being escorted by them with a heavily armed platoon to Ngauro in Didinga, in desperate pursuit of wealth, mining interests and mineral fortunes for their limitless greed and personal benefit of their ruling families in Juba.

Kelangboor Interim Leadership and members of Laarim and Didinga community learned with great dismay that the merchants of corruption; the Jieng trio Gen. Salva Mathok, Vasili Gregory and Gov. Louis Lobong were being escorted to Ngauro by a heavily armed platoon on 20th November 2020, together with Eastern Equatoria State defunct MP Joseph Colombo Lokodo and defunct Ngauro Commissioner Mr. Akileo Mboya in the company of Prudential Holdings South Sudan, a foreign gold mining firm, that has joint interests in precious minerals mining with the Jieng trio gold-merchants. Vasili Gregory is President Salva Kiir’s brother in-law and Gen. Salva Mathok also a close family relative, and Louis Lobong Lojore a Jieng collaborator against his own people.

Kelangboor, Didinga and Laarim community are aware that Prudential Holdings South Sudan has apparently been granted an illicit permission or license to commence gold mining operations in Ngauro where reportedly heavy mining machinery were already being lifted to and being installed under heavily armed platoon military escort by the merchant Generals cum-business owners, Gen Salva Mathok, Vasili Gregory and Gov. Louis Lobong Lojore. The hastily arranged deployment of the said company’s gold mining equipment on site in Ngauro, was said to have been after prior consultation and the consent of a single Didinga Member of the defunct Parliament in Juba, Dr. David Nailo, and no other due public consultations were being sought directly with the Didinga and Laarim communities members and their representatives and community leaders at the local and national level.

The Didinga and Laarim community in Juba held a meeting on the Ngauro illegal mining and land grab activity on 28th November 2020, attended by MPs; Hon. David Nailo, Hon. Peter Longole, Hon. Lucy Iyaya, and Hon. Louis Atiol. All the MPs denied knowledge of the company(ies) that went to Ngauro for mining activities and denied having been in talks or any consultations with Prudential Holdings South Sudan, albeit of persistent reports and statements attributed to the company and to Gov. Louis Lobong that  he referred the company to Dr. David Nailo who in turn facilitated the gold merchants trip to Ngauro together with the defunct area MP  Joseph Colombo Lokodo and defunct Commissioner Akileo Mboya.

The MPs however did not deny having heard about the company that was being escorted by a military platoon after they landed in Kapoeta on their way to Ngauro, and confirmed that the officials of Prudential Holdings South Sudan met Hon. Joseph Kolombo Lokodo the Eastern Equatoria State defunct MP and former Commissioner of Ngauro who escorted the officials trio gold merchants to Ngauro, without any documentary proof of their authorization for the visit from the ministry of mining; nor any legitimate licenses, land exploration permits, mineral rights permits, mine construction permits, environmental rehabilitation assurances of any kind.

The community finds it questionable and convoluting that the company Prudential Holdings was at liberty and already decided with impunity to deploy its heavy machinery and equipment on site at Ngauro as of 28th November 2020. It was not being stopped from starting operations by Mr. Akileo Mboya and Joseph Lokodo who had accompanied them, despite the company having made no public consultations and nor possessed any operating licenses or consent of the Didinga community.

For these reasons, the Didinga and Laarim community resolved:

  1. That all illegal mining/exploration activities in Budi land, Ngauro, Ngathilani, be suspended forthwith till further notice when the right procedures and all regulatory processes are in place, all government structures are fully formed and functional.
  2. That the Minister of Mining and State Governor be questioned to explain the facts surrounding the said company(ies), and their illegal mining activities on site in Ngauro
  3. That any company or companies that bypass the community representatives, are without permission nor legitimate licenses that are compliant with all regulatory processes and being ushered to site by military escorts to be imposed onto our land are rejected and are unwelcome.
  4. Minerals such as gold in Budi whilst considered to be a national resource, due process and applicable laws for its exploitation in Didinga and Laarim ancestral lands must follow standards of due regard and care for the legitimate interest of the local Didinga and Laarim populations, and benefits of which should be reflected in the National Budget but not to benefit few individual, merchant army Generals, thugs and opportunists in uniform.
  5. That Prudential Holdings South Sudan and all other firms or companies on site in Ngauro cease and halt operations and mining activities forthwith and withdraw all their equipment and personnel from Ngauro with immediate effect.
  • No allocation or allotment of land to Prudential Holdings in Ngauro
  • To form and institute Budi Local Resources Authority mechanism to protect against ancestral lands grabbing for illicit gold and mineral resources exploitation in all Didinga and Laarim communities’ territories.
  • Condemn any attempt or acts of excavation of burial sites for gold mining and breach of the peace, including site and compound of the remains of Chief Dario Nyangamoi in Ngauro against Didinga people traditions and customs.
  • To remain seized on the matter
